AOL Laptop Theater Exhibits
OBJECTIVES: AOL/Time Warner decided to publicize its In2TV promotion, which provides free downloads of vintage television shows, via a giant-sized functional replica of a Sony Vaio notebook computer. The display would make its debut at an invitation-only event at the Time-Life Building in New York City.
SOLUTIONS: The 3000 square foot exhibit was comprised of aluminum constructed platforms and walls along with a rear-projection screen, a built-in audio system, and an attached darkroom for projection. (A clear wall canopy was also included so that it could weather the storm of outdoor use. Visitors were invited to walk on the giant keyboard and type the message of their choice and to "serf" the web.
RESULTS: The exhibit has attracted significant press attention as the world’s largest functional laptop computer -- including the prestigious World Almanac. It has been in use at events around the country as AOL/Time Warner continues to spread the word about its In2TV promotion.
